Wedding Video

This past weekend we attended the wedding of Johnny and Kimberly Ma. Congrats to you both!!! They had the same videographer as we had and to save on postage he gave us our wedding video at the rehearsal dinner. Since Janet was staying the night at the hotel with the girls, I had to wait to watch the video. I really wanted to watch it but I couldn't watch it without my wife.

Finally 2 days later we are both home and watch the video, just the two of us. Watching the video I got to see stuff that I didn't know even happened and also relived the other ones. I also got to hear my voice on video, which is always weird. Your voice never sounds the way that you think it sounds when you speak. I was able to hear the message my best men gave before the days festivities started. I got to see what my wife was going through before we saw each other. It was also cool to have seen the pictures from JAC then see the video. They all brought back some of the same feelings we were both feeling that day. the biggest of which happened when the both doors opened up from the chapel to reveal my wife with her dad. It brought a huge smile to my face today, but back then I was biting my lip and nearly teared.

We were both glad we decided to have a video made. Much of the night seemed like a blur and watching it let us see what happened. It was fun watching the best men speeches again. They had everyone laughing that night and again today. We also got to see some of the messages people left throughout the night. They all made us smile and laugh. Having the video was definitely worth it. Now we can relive those memories over and over.

He Said "SF - Second leg of the honeymoon"

Since Jaimie was working, we were on our own for lunch. No Problem! We visit the a spot that we always go to when we are in the Bay Area...Patio Filipino. Once again we have another damn good meal. We head back to the condo for some rest before we head to the city.

Kevin comes home and we get ready to do some shopping, at least that's what the girls do while Kevin and I wander around some bars near Union Square. We get a Guiness at Lefty's and venture off to find Otis Bar. This place eludes us for a while as Kevin can't find it. We walk up and down a street for 15 minutes. Then finally he asks someone and it turns out it was real close. We get in and order $1 beers. Yes $1 beers from Thailand. I proceed to drink a lot and spend less than $15 for 10 beers, not all for me. It was worth the long walk that should have been short.

Otis bar was the pre-happy hour as we were supposed to go to Palomino at 5 to meet everyone else including my best friend from grade school. It's been a good 16 years since we last saw each other. With the miracles of facebook, we got a hold of each other and made plans to hang out. It was good to see him and we made plans to hang out the next night too.

While I headed to Palomino, Janet, Kevin, and Char go to the Ferry Building. Janet wanted a lesson on cheese so Kevin knew the exact place to take her. She buys some cheese and a cheese cutter and now heads to Palomino. I introduce her to Jonathan as my wife. He asks me if it's weird to call her my wife. I LOVE calling her my wife. BIG SHOUT OUT to my wife JANET!!!! We have a nice dinner and head back to the condo for some rest for tomorrow night's festivities.

Saturday started off good with another tasty meal at a Filipino crab spot. Then back to the Ferry Building. Janet spots a tea pot she really really really wants. We buy it and we've used it 3 times already. It goes great with the cheese also bought at the Ferry Building. I now have a greater appreciation of cheese. Since I'm a fan of bread, what way to make it better than with cheese. Damn good snack!

We do something that I normally don't associate SF with...BBQ. We buy some meat to grill accompanied with some beer. The balcony at the condo is on the 4th floor and it's cold. I spent a good 3 minutes before the cold wind gets to me. Thanks to Jeremy for grilling and preparing the other food. We eat and drink a little more before we head out to Mercury for Kevin's birthday.

Mercury was fun as we met up with Jonathan, Rodney, and Jurex. It's always fun to hang out with friends you haven't seen in a while. When the lounge closed down, I decided to ride with Rodney back to Kevin's. This dude doesn't know where his car is. We walk down a street, then back the other direction, then down another street. He has no idea where his car is. We see Mercury again and try to trace his steps before he got in. It turns out we went the opposite direction initially. The car is only a 3 minute walk away from Mercury. Damn...he was DD and he still couldn't find his car. At least we get home with some food waiting for us.

We wake up Sunday morning, some more hungover than others. We had some Pho, always a good meal the day after a night of drinking. We then depart for SJ to check out Ray's place as he just arrived back home. It's weird to think that we were in San Jose, Costa Rica earlier this week and now we are in San Jose, California. What a difference...We thought about going to that wings place in SJ, CA where the Man vs. Food guy was, but we were eager to get back to southern California. The trip to this point had been relatively quiet in terms of baby Addy behaving. An hour away from Bakersfield the baby starts crying and won't stop. I start to feel for the baby and we have to do something. We pull over, calm her down, and make it all the way home without any more bad crying incidents. Home Sweet Bellflower Home....

The original plan was for my sister, Josh, and baby Addy to leave after lunch. It soon changed to leave Tuesday as we went on more food journeys. We have dumplings for lunch, red velvet cup cakes for dessert, sushi for happy hour (with beer of course), and a serving of poutine. We end the night with cerveza costarriccense back at home. Another good ending to another good day.

After a hardy breakfast, it's time for them to leave. It's sad to see them go home. Baby Addy is one cute baby and it's always fun to hang out with the fam. I love it when we're all together. I'm also glad they aren't too far away. I'm also glad for the fam and friends we have here in LA. Happy Birthday Darren!!! Also thanks to Sonny for his comments that make me want to blog a little more.

He Said "It's Good To Be Home...at least for a good night sleep"

As much as I have San Diego pride, I live in LA now and it's good to be back in LA. Bellflower SON!!!

A lot has happened since we got back to the US. It seems like it's been a while since we were in Uvita, Costa Rica. We were real excited to get on a plane, but before we boarded we experienced an earth moving moment. There just happened to be an earthquake while we waited to board. We thought maybe the costarricense buildings were a little sketchy. At the exact same moment, our plane boarded some passengers so there was a rush to the counter. We just thought that it was all the people moving, but there was an older man with a cell phone next to us who explained that all the phone lines were busy which was an indication that it was an earthquake. What a going away present. Now I was even more anxious to get back to the US.

Miami was pretty uneventful. We were just glad to be back on US soil and out of a plane. We did have some pretty good meatballs, which my wife said were $35. She was joking of course...they were only $25. Now just one more leg of the trip back to LA. Now we were even more excited since we got confirmation that my sister, Josh, and baby Addy were coming up with us to SF. Landing in LA can't come soon enough.

We finally land, get our luggage, drive back to Cerritos, and head home to Bellflower. With the In-N-Out my sister picked up for us, Josh and I drink some costarricense liquor and beer. I've gotten used to the vodka, but I'm pretty sure Josh hates it. Now we drink Pilsen, a lighter cerveza costarricense. Good ending to a good day.

The drive up to SF started with us dropping Janet off at work for a couple hours, while we ate at Phillipe's. It turns out that Josh had been across the street at a work convention recently and had no idea Phillipe's even existed. We then went to pick up Janet and go to Butter Tart introduced to us by Eph. Now off to Pismo (pronounced peez-mo by Josh) Beach for some Splash Cafe Clam Chowder. On the next leg of the journey, we had to make a pit stop at Gilroy to change the baby's diaper. We got some ice cream and went back inside the car. I quickly went back outside as the smell was still lingering in the car. Back on the journey, we finally make it into South San Francisco for some pizza and absinthe. That's right the recently legal ABSINTHE. We drank more than half the bottle and no green fairies...MYTH BUSTED!!!!

He Said "Back to San Jose"

The plan was to wake up early and hike down to the water fall. Then afterwards, get some breakfast, pack, and then head back to San Jose. Everything worked out this time. The hike was a little more difficult then we thought. Some stretches of the hike were steep and slippery. The path was an unpaved rocky road, but some parts were more dirt than rock. As we get to the signs to point us in the right direction, we read that the bigger waterfall is at the end of the road. We follow it and finally make it to the big waterfall. As we head back, we reread the sign and we see that the bigger waterfall was behind the one we saw. Oh well at least we saw a waterfall.

We make it back in time at the resort to have breakfast, which again is good. I have the same typical breakfast but this time with chorizo and some ranchero sauce. We try to soak it all in one last time before we head back to San Jose.

As we pack, we check all the rooms and I don't want to leave. I am excited to go back home but I feel I don't want to leave the resort just yet. It's difficult to leave such a beautiful place, but I know that the in laws and my sisters are at home waiting for us.

The drive back to San Jose was a little easier since we knew what direction to go. The damn GPS kept telling us to make a U-turn when possible, but we knew we were headed in the right direction. We would remember certain landmarks, so we were pretty sure that we are going in the right direction. As we make it to the next town, we follow a road and end up going the wrong direction on a one way street. Whooops, we turn around and find the main "highway" again. Going back through the mountains, it seems more foggy. Hopefully this helps clean our dirty ass Corolla.

Getting into San Jose, we come across a traffic circle similar to the traffic circle in Long Beach. This has to be scarier though. As we approach, I get real nervous, sweaty palms even. It turns out it wasn't that bad. I saw an opening and I just gunned it. A few more kilometers and we make it to the hotel to rest up for the flight tomorrow.

For dinner we decided to walk around to find something. We see a McDonald's and head in that direction. On the way there we decide that we would rather eat at this local fried chicken place. It's decent. We only order 1 piece each so we can try another place. We head to Soda Tapia and order the most popular sandwich for the past 40 years. Janet is not impressed at all. I think it's ok. It's toasted flat bread with a piece of ham and roast beef with tomato, lettuce, cheese, and a layer of bean paste. We also tried the ketchup which reminds me of sweet spaghetti sauce or some Jufran. Since we have a lot left over, we take it back for my breakfast tomorrow. Now for some rest before the journey home.

She Said

We met the owner of the resort last night and he graciously comped us a bottle of champagne. We sipped and soaked it all in.. so sad that it's coming to an end.

There are waterfalls on the property and we decided to fit in the hike before breakfast today. It turned out to be the most strenuous activity of the whole freakin trip! Why do I feel so old and busted? Must start running and hiking again at home. We hit up Dominical one more time before the 3 hour drive back to San Jose and I pick up a pretty turquoise ring handmade by a Chilean artist named Carolina. As I thanked her, she said "please take care of it, I made it with a lot of love".. love supporting local merchants! Hooray for meaningful souvenirs.. my ring and my 5k tee.

Drich got us safely back into San Jose and we checked into our last hotel of the stay. Mas mejor because it's not super sketchy aka not in the middle of downtown. Looking back, I'm amazed at how much we did while still managing to relax our butts off. This has got to be the best honeymoon of all time. Joel and Ira's comes close though, I was there LOL..
